Staff Life
At Hunton & Williams, we are not content to be a good place to work—we want to be one of the best places to work. Our firm values include integrity, quality, hard work, service, economic reward and collegiality, and they guide our day-to-day interactions with our clients and each other. These shared values are also the foundation upon which each of us builds a successful career at the firm.

From their very first days at the firm, our employees are given the tools they need to achieve excellence in their work. All new staff start by attending an orientation program that features classroom and small-group sessions that provide general information about the firm as well as specific information relevant to each individual’s area of focus and responsibility. As employees grow in their roles, they receive additional on-the-job training, and are encouraged to ask questions and seek additional professional development opportunities.

Compensation and Benefits
We are committed to rewarding individual and team accomplishments. Each year, we review compensation packages to ensure that we maintain a competitive position in the marketplace. Annual employee evaluations by supervisors and other team leaders provide a well-rounded review of current performance and are used to identify strategies that support future professional growth. Based on these reviews, professional staff may be eligible for a merit-based pay increase as well as a merit-based bonus.

Benefits are a key component of the firm’s overall compensation packages. We recognize that each person’s individual and family circumstances are unique, and have developed a benefits program that can be tailored to meet specific needs. Based on employment status and seniority, we may provide comprehensive medical coverage (including, annual health screenings, flu vaccines and a 24-hour nurse consultation line), life and disability insurance and long-term care insurance. We offer a range of tax-advantaged savings programs, including retirement and 401(k) contributions, dependent and health care spending accounts, and transportation and parking accounts. Vacation time is generous and, for certain employees, includes up to 25 days of vacation or 31 days of paid time off. We also offer leaves and leave-sharing programs that help employees balance the demands of work and family life, including adoption leave, bereavement leave, community service leave, jury duty leave, leave for families of deploying military members, military leave, maternity leave (short-term disability) and paternity leave.

These benefits policies may be amended or terminated at any time, at the discretion of the firm.

Professional Development
Continuing education and professional development helps our professional staff stay current on new information and technologies, and helps them build long-term, rewarding careers at the firm. Hunton & Williams has a full-time Staff Professional Development Administrator focused solely on helping employees develop and augment their talents. Pathways (the firm’s online instructor-led and eLearning training), a full professional development library, and regularly scheduled classes are just some of the many formal and informal educational programs available to employees. The firm may also provide reimbursement for work-related educational seminars and professional activities (including memberships in professional associations), and offers a tuition-reimbursement program.

Recognition
Satisfaction in a job well done may be its own reward, but we don’t stop there. At Hunton & Williams, we believe that excellence and achievement are more than private victories—they are triumphs that should be singled out and shared. Through formal programs and informal recognition, we regularly acknowledge and express appreciation for the hard work and loyalty of our non-attorney professionals. The firm's quarterly Spotlight Awards honor staff in each office who go beyond the call of duty, and includes special office events, monetary awards and certificates, and small mementos. Winners are also publicly recognized in a firmwide email and on the firm’s intranet. Our Staff Milestone Program honors employees with 5,10, 15, 20, 25 and even more years of service at the firm.

Community Service
Community service is one of the firm's six core values and "giving" back is an integral part of our culture. The firm allows professional staff two full days of paid time off to participate in local charitable projects each year and up to five days of paid leave to help with rebuilding efforts for victims of major disasters. We recognize and celebrate those who make exceptional contributions with an annual awards program.
